JULY 2nd MANSFIELD MOTOR SPEEDWAY $2,000 TO WIN STREET STOCK RULES RELEASED
MANSFIELD, OH (June 5, 2017) – Next month on Sunday July 2nd, Mansfield Motor Speedway will host the highly anticipated Freedom 50 presented by Summit Racing Equipment. The race will feature the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series super stars as well as a special showcase for Street Stock racers, in their only visit this year to the famed 4/10 mile in Mansfield, Ohio.
The Street Stock event will be run under a special rules format that is now available for teams to review at www.MansfieldMotorSpeedway.com/StreetStockRules
In the process of developing the rules for the July 2nd event, a variety of tracks, sanctioning bodies and regional rule books were reviewed in an effort to try and diversify the ability for a larger amount of street stock racers to compete at Mansfield Motor Speedway. In the process, Wayne County, Atomic, Hilltop, Lima, UMP, Eldora, Penn Ohio, IMCA, Midwest Street Stocks and others were all put on a comparison chart and analyzed with the mindset of “Consolidated Racing” beginning on July 2nd.
The rules for July 2nd were carefully crafted and developed with specific goals says Mansfield Motor Speedway President Cody Sommer. “I myself cut my teeth at the race track in the Street Stock division and can recall the frustration of not being able to run at different places because of rules and regulations” Said Sommer. “The Street Stock division has always had that problem and the rules we put together for the July 2nd event is just step #1 in the process of creating a consolidated racing program and a fairness of competition that should be enforced and present in the class”
As mentioned the rules package is step #1 in the process that will continue onto next year in 2018, where Mansfield Motor Speedway is planning a stand-alone “VERY BIG” Street Stock event. Mansfield Motor Speedway currently has planned to announce the 2018 race shortly after the July 2nd event and after a review of the rules performance on track next month.
Street Stock teams that compete on July 2nd are encouraged to carefully review the rules and address any possible areas of attention as needed. Mansfield Motor Speedway will be performing a thorough inspection pre-race on July 2nd and teams are encouraged to arrive early and follow tech inspection procedures specified on event day. If a team has specific questions, they may be sent to rules@MansfieldMotorSpeedway.com
